Waiting for a New Year

Waiting for the days to go by,
waiting for a new year to roll by
Hoping to wake up from a bad dream,
praying for a nightmare to finally end.

Lives, livelihood wiped away,
hopes, dream washed away,
Hiding behind masks, staying out of sight,
shadows it has cast are long and sad,

seared hearts and scarred souls
Yet the human in me shouts out
light a candle, pray, don't give up hope
wait for these days to go by
wait for this year to roll by..
