Yesterday, I saw the 1984 movie adaptation of Dune. Within minutes, I realized it was a strong contender for the title of worst movie of all time. For those unfamiliar with Dune, it is a futuristic novel by Frank Herbert that has had immense influence on successful films such as Star Wars, Mad Max, and Blade Runner to name just a few. As a fan of the recent Netflix series based on the book, which boasts impressive production value and talented actors, I was excited to watch the 1984 movie adaptation. However, calling this film bad would be an understatement. The majority of the acting falls flat, with only a few lead characters delivering decent performances. Furthermore, if you haven’t already read the novel, you’ll find yourself lost in its confusing storyline.
