What is your favorite type of weather?

My favorite type of weather is the kind that strikes a perfect balanceneither too hot nor too cold. I love it when gentle rain falls every now and then, painting the sky with vibrant rainbows. Lately, I’ve been lucky enough to experience this a lot in Kerala, where showers surprise us even in March! There’s a practical charm to this climate. It keeps my mood steady and lifts my spirits. The frequent rains nourish the plants, turning everything lush and green. Of course, there’s a downsidegrass and weeds seem to thrive a little too wellbut then again, rainbows aren’t permanent either. One major perk stands out: the rain washes away pollution, leaving the air crisp and clean. It’s a simple recipe for feeling hale and hearty!

One of the most meaningful gifts I have ever received was a piece of land in my home state of Kerala. It was my grandfather’s foresight and generosity that made this possiblehis will included a clause gifting a plot of land equally to my parents and “the children born of them.” This land, situated right in the heart of my hometown, is incredibly valuable. If I had tried to buy it on my own and then build a house, it would have been financially out of reach. But with this inheritance, all I needed to do was focus on constructing a homesomething I was able to accomplish, and I take great pride in the achievement. The photo accompanying this post is of the house I built on that very land. Every brick and wall stands as a testament to the legacy passed down to me, and I am deeply grateful… Share one of the best gifts you’ve ever received

Two months in our village

I must have been seven. We spent two months in our village when school would be closed. Vacation time was a time for fun. We spent the time in our hometown in Kerala. Kerala back in the seventies was green with a capital G. Coconut trees were everywhere. Gently flowing rivers crisscrossed the land. Grandfather had a big family. He built a big house to accommodate his entire brood. Uncles, aunties, cousins, babies, and old balding relations lived in the house, and there was still room to spare. Once, I counted the rooms, and there were eleven on each floor. There was enough room to run around and play without getting in the way of the elders. Three of my cousins were my age, and our idea of fun was to run all around the house, making a racket. During one of our races around the house, we saw a… Two months in our village
