My day in school

I watch as the beam of sunlight cuts across the classroom at school. The particles of chalk dust floating through the room are in the spotlight for a brief moment before disappearing somewhere below. I smiled. It was fun watching the patterns the sunlight made on the floor.

“You find sums funny? I guess that means you know the answer.”

My math teacher’s voice brings me back to earth.

On the board, she had written

4951–0076 =?

Somehow, the lower row of numbers is to be removed from the upper. I never understood why she did such cruel things. I would have let both numbers live in peace. Why bother?

“Come up here and write the answer.” She said.

Reluctantly, I make my way to the board.

Just as I reached it, the bell rang, and the class was over.

Saved by the bell, again.
