A lesson I wish I had learned early in life

A lesson I wish I had learned early in life was the importance of trusting my instincts. Listening to my inner voice. A little late in life, I realized that by believing in my own judgment, I was guided in the right direction, even when the path ahead seemed uncertain. The reasoning behind this is straightforward: My instincts are honed by my experiences over the years. I know my strengths and limitations, what I am capable of, and where my boundaries lie. Relying on others to make decisions for me doesn’t make sense, as their choices are shaped by their own perspectives and interests. Each person’s conclusion is influenced by what benefits them, not necessarily what’s best for me. This understanding has shaped my approach to decision-making, and it’s a principle I have adhered to ever since.

I prefer food that is …

I prefer food that is gentle on the stomach and healthy. While most healthy foods around the world are often bland and not always pleasing to the palate, I’ve come to appreciate their benefits after spending the first couple of decades of my life indulging in unhealthy junk food. Nowadays, I lean towards a more health-conscious menu. I prefer easy-to-cook, mildly spiced Indian dishes. My favorites are khichdi and curd rice, both simple to make and gentle on the system. For special occasions like festivals or anniversaries, I enjoy a traditional spread of rice, chapati, and a couple of vegetarian dishes. At home, we embrace a democratic approach to food choices. I am an ovo-vegetarian, my wife is a strictly vegetarian, and our son enjoys non-vegetarian food.

How often do I walk or run

When asked how often do I walk or run, my answer is usually: not as much as I would like or should. My work revolves around computers and smartphones, and I typically spend about 10 to 12 hours a day glued to screens. This unhealthy routine often leads to weight gain, a tendency to snack on junk food, and minimal interaction with the outside world. Fortunately, I maintain a strict schedule of waking up and going to bed, along with a near-daily exercise routine, which helps balance out these habits. However, I still feel that I should make more time for walking and, if possible, running. I hope to move to Kerala soon, leaving behind Mumbai, which currently feels like it has me in a vice-like grip. I’ve promised myself that once in Kerala, I’ll commit to a more active and healthy lifestyle.
