The old man from the first floor flat

“How dare you park your car before my house?”Startled, I looked up from the phone. It was the old man from the first floor flat. He was shouting at me.  “What?” I started to speak when he continued. “Your car is parked right before my gate.” I always park ahead of a gray colored gate. Last night I may have parked in front. “I am sorry, I will move it.” “Don’t you have any civic sense,” I wanted to respond, but I was the culprit here. As I walked towards his house, he followed me, continuing his tirade.  As we neared the car, I reached for the keys. It was not in my pocket. I checked all the pockets, even the shirt pocket. Then I remembered. I had sold my car the previous day. I was travelling by bus today, I had forgotten all about it.  Turning around, I smiled… The old man from the first floor flat

The Union Budget

I switch on the TV eagerly. The finance minister is walking up the steps of the Parliament. She is about to present the union budget. “I think it is a silk sari. Is that color magenta?” my wife said. “What?” I reply. I am more worried about that folder she has in her hand. It is the budget. The Indian Government is presenting its annual budget. All the taxes and rebates come in it. It is usually more taxes and no rebates.  “She has a preference for saris that represent our cultural heritage,” my wife said. “Shh,” I said, increasing the TV volume.  The finance minister’s speech was about to start. Ten minutes later, she stepped into the main part of the speech.“Telecom goods-BCD increased from 10% to 15% on PCBA of specified telecom equipment…” the sound from the TV speaker was echoing in the room. “What does BCD mean?”… The Union Budget
