A miracle in the classroom

A miracle in the classroom is not possible they say, I disagree. I remember it clearly. I all began with my palms sweating. My heart is thumping, and I am scared. Today is class test Friday. The day each week, our math teacher asks one student to come to the board and solve a sum. I am the candidate for today’s show.

I look at my friend, and he grins back, showing all his teeth. Maybe I should knock a few of them out.

The door opens, and our principal walks in.

“I have an announcement. Your math teacher has left our school due to some personal reasons. This is your new teacher.”

He steps aside, and a thin, bespectacled young woman walks in. I think she looks like a goblin. I know math teachers are built like that. She smiles at the class. A goblin who smiles?

The Lord works in mysterious ways.

I look up and mouth a silent prayer.
