Listening to music while working

Under normal circumstances, I do not have a habit of listening to music while working. My work involves computers and programming, but not serious coding. These days it is more light work and also involves a lot of user management. This rule changes when I have some serious code-related work; then I have to have music running in the background.

I listen to a selection of Indian movie songs from the 70s and 80s in languages such as Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and English. The singers are Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Yesudas, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bee Gees, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie depending on my mood.

I am not sure how it works, but if I need to concentrate; I need music running in the background. I remember coding one of our organizations’ websites for three months, working around 16 hours a day all days of the week.

Before you start sympathizing with me, allow me to explain that I work from home and no one asked me to work such long hours. When you love what you do, you hardly notice the hours fly by. Listening to music during moments of such intense concentration makes me perform even better.

Music blasting off in the background while you do day to day work like cooking, cleaning is a great way to do your daily chores less boring.
