List of major historical events I remember

The list of major historical events I remember is long. Just when you think you have seen it all, another major event drops.

For example, the moon landing? Apparently that happened about a month after I was born, but I was too busy being a baby to read the newspaper.

Then there’s Jimmy Carter getting sworn in as President. I vaguely remember it, but I was probably more concerned with figuring out how to tie my shoelaces.

India declared an emergency in 1975-77. This was a pretty big deal, but at the time, I was still mastering the art of not spilling my milk.

The Iranian Revolution? Shah who? The only revolution I cared about involved how many times I could spin around in circles before falling down.

Indira Gandhi lost the elections, and the Janata Party took over. Honestly, back then I was more likely to name all the members of my imaginary superhero squad than the entire cabinet.

Then there was Ronald Reagan’s near-assassination. I watched that on the news the same day it happened

And who could forget India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup win?

Indira Gandhi’s assassination and the riots in 1984? That was intense.

Then came Maradona’s infamous “Hand of God” goal in 1986. I was one of those infected by the football bug and  for a few weeks was busy trying to figure out how to balance a soccer ball on my head without falling over. Luckily the fever passed once the world cup ended.

The Gulf War? Saddam? Gaddafi? Remember the invisible WMD’s. If anyone needs proof that wars solve no problems they just have to read the news from that era.

It was also the time Michael Jackson and Madonna ruled the world of pop music. Never figured how to moonwalk without face-planting.

Then Bill Clinton and the infamous intern scandal hit the headlines. Let’s just say, being in college at the time made the jokes write themselves.

The Y2K scare came and went, I was ready for the apocalypse, but apparently, the universe ghosted us.

Early 2000s, my career took over, and, I abandoned the world to fend for itself. I was too busy adultingfighting meetings, not revolutions.
